This Library Research Guide (LibGuide) will introduce you to the major resources available from McFarlin Library for conducting research in the field of Chemical Engineering.
"SciFinder® is a research discovery application that provides unlimited access to the world's most comprehensive and authoritative source of references, substances and reactions in chemistry and related sciences." -- ACS NOTE: This is the original or "classic" version of SciFinder, sometimes called SciFinder-web. It will be retired at the end of 2021 and you will need to use SciFindern.
You must have an account to use SciFinder. The account is free. Register here for your SciFinder account.
IMPORTANT: A new interface, called SciFindern, with enhanced search capabilities and additional tools for information retrieval (including PatentPak) is now available. Your existing SciFinder login works with SciFindern. You do not have to create a new account.
Purpose of this LibGuide
This Library Research Guide will provide information about and access to some of the most significant research materials available from McFarlin Library related to the study of Chemical Engineering.
If you're just beginning your research or you want to develop a basic understanding of Chemical Engineering, check out the Books & E-Books tab. Books often synthesize the available scholarship on a topic. This makes them an excellent resource when you need a lot of information quickly (including historical information), you want to put a topic in context with other issues, or you need a good summary of research. McFarlin Library provides books in both print and electronic formats.
If you're doing more in-depth research, such as for an upper division or graduate class or a senior project, you'll probably want to track down some journal articles on your topic. Check out what's in the Journal Articles tab. You'll learn about the major resources McFarlin has that will help you identify and retrieve professional and scholarly articles on Engineering-related topics.
Written by prominent scholars from industry, academia, and research institutions, the Kirk-Othmer Encyclopedia of Chemical Technology presents a wide scope of articles on chemical substances—including their properties, manufacturing, and uses. It also focuses on industrial processes and unit operations in chemical engineering, as well as covering fundamentals and scientific subjects related to the field. Additionally, environmental and health issues concerning chemical technology are also addressed.
