McFarlin Study Spaces: Home

Group Study Room

Located next to the Writing Center, the 3rd Floor Conference Room is available for check out for 2 hours at a time. The room is equipped with a whiteboard, and a conference room that seats 10.

This room is available for use by groups on a first-come, first-serve basis, and the key can be checked out with a valid TU ID at the Circulation Desk.  

Learning Studio

The Learning Studio is a versatile space within the library, designed to accommodate workshops and collaborative groups up to 30 people. Equipped with movable furniture and ample seating, this space encourages creativity and active learning. Whether you're hosting a hands-on workshop, a group project session, or a guest lecture, the Learning Studio provides the flexibility to configure the room to suit your needs. This space is available by reservation during McFarlin open hours. This room is located on the Main Level of McFarlin (M280).

Individual Study Room

Located on the Main Level, this individual study room can be checked out for 2 hours at a time. This room has a desk, chair, and access to Wi-Fi.

This room is available to individuals on a first-come, first-serve basis, and the key can be checked out with a valid TU ID at the Circulation Desk.

Study Carrels (semester)

There is one study carrel available at this time. The electronic application will be posted here when there are more carrels available. To apply to use a study carrel, please complete the Fifth Floor Study Carrel – Application for Use.

The library has seven study carrels on the fifth floor that can be checked out by graduate students, with approval, on a first-come, first-serve basis for a semester at a time. These carrels have a small counter, chair, and Wi-Fi, and can be locked.

Study carrel checkout is limited to two semesters per graduate student. Please contact Jaymi Bouziden for questions or more information.

Open Study Areas

On the 3rd floor of McFarlin Library, you will find the Gray Student Commons which is equipped with couches, tables, dry erase board, and even an exercise bike desk. Group and solo study are welcome in this area.


Also located on the 3rd floor, the Student Study is equipped with 10 tables and some couches for group study and collaboration. Each table is equipped with a lamp and power outlets.


On the Main Level, just past the student testing center and the research desk, you will find the Browsing Floor. The floor has several tables, a couple of whiteboards, computers, and the library's color printer/scanner/copier.

Quiet Study Areas

Located on the Plaza Level, the North Reading Room and the Pat and Arnold Brown Reading Room are each outfitted with 10 tables and several couches for quiet study. Each table is equipped with a lamp and power outlets.  


There are several study carrels situated throughout the stacks on the Main and Intermediate Levels.
