First Generation Students: Traveling to and using the library

This guide was developed to make first generation students aware of the resources that McFarlin offers to support academic success at TU.

Library Parking & Transportation

McFarlin sits in the heart of campus, and can be accessed easily via the footpaths from nearly every building.

If you are driving to McFarlin, there is a parking lot on the north side of the building. Though this lot is reserved for parking pass holders, there are several designated "visitor" spots on the west end of the lot.

Library Spaces

Circulation Desk

Located on the Plaza Level of the library near the main entrance, this desk is a excellent starting point to get help in the library. You can checkout and return items at this desk. You can talk to one of the staff members at the desk if you need to find a room or resource. If you are meeting with a librarian or another student, the circulation desk is a recommended meeting spot.

Silent Reading Rooms

Located on the Plaza Level, The North and South Reading Rooms are not only gorgeous but they are the two rooms in the library that are reserved for silent, individual study. These rooms have plenty of tables and outlets to help you stay focused and get work done.

Browsing Floor Workspaces

The Browsing Floor of the library is located on the Main Level. There is seating and table workspace for both groups and individuals. The workspaces are first come, first served, so you never need to reserve a spot. In addition to the workspaces, the Browsing Floor has 4 whiteboards for student use, as well as a wide selection of popular fiction and DVDs that can be checked out by students. Important: The Browsing Floor closes 30 minutes BEFORE the other levels of the library.

These computers can access the network printer on this floor, and will use your PaperCut account for printing just as any other campus device will. You can also use the printer on this floor to scan and make copies of existing paperwork by logging into the machine directly.
