Meet your Outreach Librarian!
My name is Kathryn Thomas. I have been the Outreach and Instruction Librarian at McFarlin since Fall 2023. Before joining the team in McFarlin, I was a high school librarian and English teacher. With this background, I am uniquely aware of some of the major disconnect and hurdles that today's students face. I think it's important for McFarlin's Outreach program to support our TU students through engaging programming, relevant instruction, and a willingness to hear student input and implement change.
How can Outreach help you, your organization, or your department?
I don't work at or attend TU. How can you help me?
Part of McFarlin's role in the TU "Heart of Tulsa" initiative is connecting our excellent academic and instructional resources with local area K-12 students and community members. I currently work with Tulsa City-County Librarians to host public library card sign-ups, info sessions, and information literacy support. I am also the contact point if you would like to bring students to campus for advanced research instruction or exposure to a college library.
If you've got an idea, don't hesitate to request collaboration. I've got you!
My goal as your Outreach and Instruction Librarian is to foster strong relationships between McFarlin Library and the TU students, faculty, staff, and alumni.
I will achieve this by being a presence in the library, on campus, and in the community, sharing the great offerings at McFarlin.
It is my job to be an ambassador for the library - sharing the library's excellent resources and listening to your questions, comments, and concerns.
