McFarlin Course Reserves: Home

A guide to McFarlin's course and textbook reserves, how items are selected, policies, etc.

McFarlin Course Reserves

Course reserves are supplementary course readings or selected research materials that an instructor has requested be set aside for their classes.

  • They are located upstairs at the Library Service Desk.
  • The course reserve area is open during library hours.

Loan periods for these materials are shorter than for regular books and vary depending on type of materials and request of faculty placing items on reserve:

  • 2-hour, restricted to library use only
  • 4-hour, restricted to library use only

*Fines for reserve materials returned late are $1.00 per hour up to a maximum of $6.00 per item.
*Reserve materials cannot be put on hold.

Students

Looking for something that your instructor has put on reserve?

  • Search the library's Course Reserves List.
    • You can search by course number or the instructor's last name.
    • If you know the exact title of the book, you can search for it in the Library Catalog.

Course Reserves Policy

  • Loan periods vary depending on type of materials and request of faculty placing items on reserve:
    • 2-hour, restricted to library use only
    • 4-hour, restricted to library use only
  • Holds and recalls are not allowed.
  • Renewal checkouts are not allowed.
  • Fines for materials returned late are $1.00 per hour up to a maximum of $6.00 per item.
  • Fines for damaged materials will be determined by library administration, and a billing charge will be placed on the patron’s account. Damaged materials billings are nonrefundable.
  • If materials become 24 hours overdue, patrons are billed for the replacement of the material (actual cost or if undetermined a default of $100.00) plus a $20.00 cataloging fee plus a $5.00 billing fee. Replacement cost of a reserve photocopy is $6.00.
  • Fines and bills may be paid at the payment window in the first floor of McClure Hall during normal business hours or online. You must bring your receipt as proof of fine payment to the Library Service Desk before you will be allowed to resume your normal library privileges.
  • To allow time for processing, submit reserve requests on the appropriate form at least five business days prior to class assignments. Requests are date-stamped when received and processed in order of receipt.
  • Personal copies of books will be barcoded on a cover sheet that will not damage the books. The library assumes no responsibility for personal materials placed on reserve.
  • At the end of the semester, you will be contacted to check on the status of your Course Reserves materials for the next semester.

  • At the end of each semester, any materials on Course Reserves that have not been verified as still needed will be removed from Course Reserves.

  • To remove your materials from Course Reserves, email tiffany-benson@utulsa.edu with the name of the book, course title, and date you would like the Course Reserves to end. Please allow five business days for the request to be completed.
