Transformative Agreements

Transformative agreements, also known as read and publish agreements, are agreements between publishers and institutions that help shift scholarly publishing from a subscription model to open access.

How they work

Institutions redirect their subscription spending to cover the open access article processing charges (APC) from their affiliated researchers. This allows institutions to maintain access to scholarly content while supporting the transition to open access.

Transformative Agreements at TU

ACM

Starting in January 2025, TU entered into a transformative agreement agreement with ACM. Under this agreement research articles by TU corresponding authors in all ACM journals, conference proceedings, and magazines will be made open access immediately at no cost to the author. 

Annual Reviews

In Fall of 2025, McFarlin Library began participating in Annual Reviews Subscribe to Open Program. Journals in thie program range from the humanities to STEM publications and allow TU authors publish open access at no cost. Green Open Access

Green Open Access is the term used for sharing a pre-publication version of your journal article in an online repository. The repository can be discipline specific such as arXiv.org (physics) or it can be interdisciplinary like Open Science Framework (OSF). Using a tool like the Open Policy Finder can help you understand where you can share your article and which version you can share.
